The Village of Walnut Creek

BY DOING THE FOLLOWING YOU CAN HELP PREVENT COSTLY SEWER SPILLS AND REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS ASSOCIATED WITH SPILLS:

  • All  cooking oils (including salad oil, frying oil, bacon fat, marinades) need to be poured into a container and disposed of in the garbage.  You can use cat litter or used coffee grounds to absorb liquid in the container
  • Dry wipe all pots with paper towel or napkins to remove greasy leftovers from them before washing them in the sink or putting them in the dishwasher
  • Place leftover fat trimmings from meats in the trash instead of putting it down the garbage disposal
  • Do not dispose of rags, swifter wipes, mop heads or personal hygiene products down the sewer
Please help the Village of Walnut Creek  prevent sewer clogs and overflows.    With your help and with the Utility Department preventative maintenance program, most sewer over-flows can be avoided.  We appreciate your help in this matter!

Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of its approval in the Community Rating System (CRS). By rating Walnut Creek as a Class 8 community, our residents can now enjoy a 10% reduction on their flood insurance premiums if renewed or issued after October 1, 2014.

According to David L. Miller, Associate Administrator of the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration of FEMA, in a letter to Mayor Danny Jackson, stated, “I want to congratulate your community on its application to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS). . . . I commend you on your community’s actions and your determination to lead your community to be more disaster resistant. This commitment enhances public safety, protects property, preserves the natural functions of floodplains, and reduces flood insurance premiums.”

Copies of the FEMA letter are available in the Village office if any resident needs to furnish the information to their insurance agent.

The Village of Walnut Creek surrounds two large lakes and a top-rated golf course in the eastern part of Wayne County, North Carolina. Although Walnut Creek is a relatively new community, the tall pines, the majestic oaks and the flowering dogwoods give evidence that the beauty of the area has existed for many years.

Approximately 370 families enjoy the peace and tranquility of the village. There are only a few businesses within the corporate limits of the village and Walnut Creek is truly a neighborhood community.

The residents of the village elect a village council to govern the community. Danny Jackson presides over the council meetings as Mayor of Walnut Creek. Greg Ricker is Mayor Pro Tem.  Sharon Geelen serves the council as the Administrator. The Police Department ensures a safe and secure community.
