SEWER AND ROAD PAVING PROJECT

The Village has started working on several projects that will be impacting your travel (Monday- Friday only) throughout the Village for the next 45 or so days and we would like to review these with you.

Starting today we have hired a company to be running a camera through the Village sewer system to inspect it. As there are manhole openings in the road you may be seeing trucks and equipment in these areas. We estimate this project to take approx. three weeks, weather cooperating. Not all work will be in the roadway and you will see trucks and other equipment parked on the right-of-way during this project.

Another project is starting next Monday, November 10, and that involves resurfacing portions of Walnut Creek Drive and Mill Rd. These repairs are expected to take approx. 45 days. The scope of this project is to remove trees too close to the road, re-grade culverts, fix buckled pavement due to tree roots, re-pave the road, and to address other misc. storm water drainage issues. In the affected areas some mailboxes may have to be temporarily removed but they will be put back per U.S. Postal Guidelines.

The scope of this work will impact your ability to use the front entrance. There are no plans to close the front entrance, however, please be advised with digging, tree removal, and paving there will be times when the road is down to one lane and/or closed for short periods of time. We have notified the Fire Dept, EMS, and the Wayne County Schools so they are aware of these delays. As you plan for your trip to/from work please consider how these closures & restrictions could impact your travel. Again the road will only be closed for very short periods of time, if any, while localized work is being performed. As previously mentioned, the majority of work will be performed on Walnut Creek Drive from the entrance to Spring Lake Dam, and on Mill Road from the intersection with Walnut Creek Drive to Dobbs Place. Traffic flow will be affected and using the back entrance is one option. If you use the front entrance you should expect delays and allow additional time for your commute.

There will be equipment in the road way on occasion, and possibly detours during certain hours. The Walnut Creek Police Department will be on duty during this construction project providing traffic control as needed. During this time there will be a zero tolerance for speeding and other traffic violations. This is for EVERYONE’S safety with so many people working (and equipment) in the roadway.

There are a few other areas within the Village seeing smaller amounts of project work as we attempt to correct poor storm water drainage, roadway sink holes, and tree root intrusion.

We know you will be very happy with the finished product, but like any construction project, while work is underway it’s going to be a bit messy. We appreciate your patience and consideration as we continue to make improvements to this great place we call home.

Updates will be provided during the project. Again, the sewer projects are starting now, and next Monday (Nov 10th) the road work begins.

A Suddenlink representative has advised us that Suddenlink is in dispute with Viacom regarding a requested rate increase. Their contract with Viacom expires at the end of September and if something is not worked out in the next few days, several channels will be removed for this viewing area. Suddenlink has made several offers but each has been declined by Viacom. More information can be obtained by going to this site: www.suddenlinkonyourside.com.

The Village of Walnut Creek surrounds two large lakes and a top-rated golf course in the eastern part of Wayne County, North Carolina. Although Walnut Creek is a relatively new community, the tall pines, the majestic oaks and the flowering dogwoods give evidence that the beauty of the area has existed for many years.

Approximately 370 families enjoy the peace and tranquility of the village. There are only a few businesses within the corporate limits of the village and Walnut Creek is truly a neighborhood community.

The residents of the village elect a village council to govern the community. Danny Jackson presides over the council meetings as Mayor of Walnut Creek. Greg Ricker is Mayor Pro Tem. Lou Cook is the Village Administrator and Sharon Geelen serves the council as Assistant Administrator & Clerk. The Police Department ensures a safe and secure community.

If you'd like to contact the Village directly, please fill this form out and we will get back with you as soon as possible.
